This is my first post and what should I write? I guess to start off, for those who don’t know me very well I’m Alan Yu and I am primarily known as an actor and finance blogger. Very odd combination huh? As well, I have a big personal interest in technology and gaming where many would classify me as a geek. For the most part, I would say the entertainment and media industry are the common denominators in my life.
Because of my background, I meet a diverse group of people each day while getting the opportunity to experience a wide range of events. Interestingly enough, I often found that these two worlds of personalities don’t seem to usually mesh. As an example, hanging around a more mainstream crowd I would often hear snickers and disapprovals when a gamer is mentioned. To many, that means a socially inept individual that doesn’t contribute to society. At the same time, when I am around a bunch of gamers I often see resentment and judgement on how a mainstream crowd is say superficial.
It’s almost like a stereotypical clash between a corporate individual and an artist. When people meet me for the first time they don’t realize the diverse background I have. It’s an interesting predicament to be in. In many ways it feels like there is a need for more awareness about the two cultures depending on what side of the fence you are on. It even inspired me to create some videos about it at times.
So I thought it would be fun to create a dedicated site where I can share my thoughts and experiences. At the end of the day, we are simply people with unique skillsets and life experiences. So may as well have some fun in sharing my thoughts and experiences!
